Physical Traits and Adaptations

Bald Eagles are among the largest birds of prey in North America, with a wingspan of up to 7.5 feet and a body length of up to 3 feet. Their distinctive white head and tail feathers, contrasted against their dark brown body, make them easily recognizable. The name “bald” originates from the Old English word “balde,” meaning white, rather than hairless. These powerful birds possess strong talons and sharp beaks, perfect for catching and consuming their preferred prey — fish.
